A home guard was shot and injured by chain-snatchers after he tried to prevent them from snatching a womans gold chain in Noida Sector-18 market. Police said the incident took place on Thursday around 3 pm near the Atta peer crossing in Sector-18. The woman Manu Guljakar,a resident of Rohini,had come to Noida for Diwali shopping. She was walking to a shopping mall in the area,when four men appeared on two motorbikes and tried to snatch her gold chain, a senior police officer said. Police said two of the assailants were carrying pistols. The two got off their motorbike and snatched her chain at gunpoint. When she screamed for help,a traffic home guard posted at the crossing rushed to her help, the officer said. Shivram Yadav,deputy superintendent Noida,said one of the chain-snatchers fired at the home guard in a bid to escape. The home guard,Devinder Singh (30),sustained a bullet injury in his left hand. Police patrol vans were alerted and Singh was rushed to a private hospital,where the bullet was removed. He is stable, he said. Police have launched a hunt for the men and are going through CCTV footage to identify them. We have formed several teams and are conducting searches to locate the four men. Security has been stepped up in market areas ahead of Diwali, Yadav said.
