A Delhi court has sentenced an operative of banned terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen to seven years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh convicted Mohd Abudulla, a Pakistan national, of offences under Sections 18/20/23 of the UAPA and offences under the Arm’s Act. He was also convicted of opening fire at a Delhi Police officer in 2010 and was held guilty of offences under the IPC and Section 14 of The Foreigners Act.
The conviction comes in a 2010 case in which Abudulla had moved an application seeking to plead guilty to the charges framed against him. During the argument on quantum of sentencing, Abudulla’s counsel said his client had spent almost four -and-half years in custody and that he be sentenced only for the period already served. He said Abudulla was facing trial in J&K in five cases and has been acquitted in four.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police said on November 14, 2010, they received information that Abudulla would be visiting Rose Garden to meet an associate. A trap was was laid and Abudulla was arrested. A pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
