To strengthen security arrangements at the Kadarpur CRPF shooting range, the Gurgaon police are deputing more and more police personnel. While most are specially trained commandos or personnel from the Commissionerate and the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB),others have been brought in from the neighbouring districts of Faridabad and Rewari.
Most of these policemen prefer to report for duty from their home towns. A dire lack of public transport in the Millennium City, however, has made it extremely difficult for these personnel to get to,or head back from, the venue once they get to Gurgaon. Getting to the main city bus stand or even the National Highway is a tough task.
While there are regular police buses and a dedicated city bus from the venue to places like Badashpur or the city bus stand,it does not help matters as many have to either report very early or stay on till 4 pm.
The city bus service starts at 9 am and does four rounds till 3 pm. Our duty hours, however, are from 5 am to 3.30 pm. As a result,we have to look for alternative modes of transport, said a Haryana police jawan posted in the neighbouring district.
Another colleague, who was also looking for a lift outside the Kadarpur camp around 4 pm,added that no arrangements had been made for meals either. We cannot be expected to survive the entire day on snacks.
Toilets had not been set up either, and consequently, policemen posted on Games duty were seen scampering into the nearby fields to answer natures call. Gurgaon Police Commissioner S S Deswal, however, clarified that lodging arrangements are available the jawans on duty,as well as a mess for at the Bhondsi campus.
