The police in Haryana’s Manesar Monday arrested a 20-year-old man Monday for allegedly killing his uncle after a tiff broke out while they were drinking alcohol at a sawmill where both worked as labourers.

The Manesar police said the accused, identified as Rahul alias Nanke and a resident of Rakura Pur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, allegedly struck his uncle, Badrinath, 41, on the head with a piece of wood, leading to his death. They added the crime occurred on the night of July 6 at the sawmill in Naharpur village.

According to the police, a team from the Manesar Police Station was informed of a man’s death due to head injuries on July 7. When they reached the hospital, they found Badrinath, also a resident of Gonda, had died. The police then visited the crime scene in Naharpur, where forensic teams and a duty magistrate inspected the site. The body was sent for a postmortem examination, and later handed it over to the family.

Badrinath’s brother lodged a written complaint, stating that on July 6, Rahul called him informing him that Badrinath was not answering his phone. When he reached the sawmill, he found the gate locked, and discovered Badrinath’s motorcycle and his body with a head injury. He rushed his brother to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The complainant alleged that Rahul and Badrinath, who were known to consume alcohol together, had a quarrel over drinking on the night of the crime. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered for murder.

During initial questioning, Rahul confessed to the crime, admitting that he and his uncle, Badrinath, were drinking together when an argument broke out. He told the police that he picked up a piece of wood in a fit of rage, and struck Badrinath on the head before fleeing the scene.

The police have taken Rahul into custody, and are conducting further investigations to ascertain additional details, a spokesperson said.
