Gurgaon police nab serial car theft accused after ‘encounter’
Acting on a tip-off from Sub-Inspector Mohit, in charge of Sector 39 Crime Branch, about a suspect riding a numberless Apache motorcycle with illegal weapons, the police set up checkpoints in Sohna and the surrounding areas.

In a dramatic encounter late Tuesday night, the Delhi police apprehended a 30-year-old proclaimed offender wanted in 16 vehicle theft cases across Gurugram, Nuh, and the Capital city. The accused, Zahid, a resident of Jhimrawat village in Nuh, was shot in the leg after firing at the police while attempting to flee.
Acting on a tip-off from Sub-Inspector Mohit, in charge of Sector 39 Crime Branch, about a suspect riding a numberless Apache motorcycle with illegal weapons, the police set up checkpoints in Sohna and the surrounding areas.
The police spotted a man matching the description riding a black motorcycle without a number plate near Raipur village, heading towards Sohna. When signaled to stop, the suspect sped up and turned onto the old Alwar-Sohna road. The police chased him and alerted the checkpoint team ahead. The suspect crashed into a barricade, fell off the bike, and attempted to flee towards Tikona Park, firing at the police. A bullet hit Sub-Inspector Mohit’s bulletproof jacket. In retaliatory firing, the police shot Zahid in the left leg, after which he was overpowered, according to a spokesperson.
Zahid was admitted to a government hospital in Sohna for treatment. The police recovered a motorcycle, a pistol, one live cartridge, and four used cartridge shells from the scene. A case was registered against him at the Sohna City police station for obstructing government work and attempting a murderous attack on the police.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Scene of Crime teams inspected the site later Tuesday night. “Zahid, currently undergoing medical treatment, will be taken into custody after discharge, and further interrogation will follow. The investigation is ongoing,” the police said.
Following an exchange of gunfire last week, the Haryana Police had earlier apprehended five suspects in connection with the incident involving the firing of bullets at singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria in July. Four of the men had sustained injuries in the gunfight.
The operation was conducted by a joint team of Manesar Crime Branch Sector-31, Sector-43, and the Gurugram Special Task Force (STF) near Wazirpur on Pataudi Road around 12:15 am.
