To address chronic waterlogging on the Narsinghpur service road along National Highway 48, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) conducted a joint demolition drive on Monday to clear encroachments in the Narsinghpur and Mohammedpur areas.
The drive was part of measures to lay a 750-metre drainage pipeline to connect Narsinghpur to the Badshahpur drain, ensuring smooth stormwater flow during the monsoon.
The Narsinghpur area, under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), frequently experiences waterlogging during heavy rains. The new drainage pipeline is expected to provide a long-term solution by channeling stormwater to the Badshahpur drain.
The drive was overseen by GMDA Chief Executive Officer Shyamal Misra, who visited the site to inspect the enforcement actions and plan further infrastructure development.
The operation cleared illegal structures, including a shed and a parking area of a wedding hall, to secure a six-metre-wide stretch required for the drainage network.
R S Batth, GMDA District Town Planner and nodal officer for the drive, said, “The joint action by GMDA and HSIIDC, as directed by the CEO, cleared the necessary right-of-way on HSIIDC land acquired in 2006. This has enabled us to commence drainage work, which will significantly benefit residents and commuters during the monsoon.”
“The project was delayed due to encroachments on the designated land. With the area now cleared, GMDA will connect this stretch to the main drain, resolving waterlogging issues along this critical section of the national highway,” said Vikram Singh, Executive Engineer, GMDA.
The 750m drain is a temporary measure for the upcoming monsoon season, so that the stormwater is optimally diverted to prevent waterlogging. The tender for a longer permanent drain will be floated soon, a GMDA spokesperson said.
