A policeman was suspended in Gurgaon this week for allegedly stalking a woman in a PCR van and sending objectionable messages to her on social media earlier this month, said officers.

The woman, a lifestyle content creator, shared multiple posts on social media related to the alleged harassment. “Even before she shared a video (regarding the incident), we (the Cybercrime Police) had acted on the complaint immediately. After an initial investigation, we traced the accused and registered the FIR on September 23. The officer was promptly suspended the same day,” said a spokesperson.

After she reached her house, she saw a comment on one of her social media posts, identifying her vehicle and parts of her route. Upon questioning the account holder, she allegedly got a strange reply – ‘Police ki nazar bohot tez hoti hai (police has sharp vision)’. The user urged to shift the conversation to private messages. She then recalled that a PCR vehicle was tailing her.

Over the next few hours, several unsolicited messages allegedly followed. The sender later identified himself as a policeman and claimed he wanted to befriend her. He allegedly said that he traced on social media using her car’s number plate.

In a reel posted on Tuesday, the woman recalled her ordeal, saying she was “pained” that a policeman meant to protect women was sending such creepy messages. She also alleged that police had asked her to ignore the messages and block him. “Why should I just block (him) and let it be? At this age, one is encountering such people… imagine the plight of young girls”, she said in a video.

On the woman’s allegations of delay in taking action against the accused, the Gurugram Police spokesperson said, “We have acted swiftly in the matter and further investigation is underway. We are taking strict action in all such cases.”
