The Gurgaon municipal corporation is set to issue four zone-wise tenders for doorstep waste collection, a departure from the earlier practice that ended on June 15, where a single agency was responsible.
The new move will see four separate agencies get the job for each zone. The tender for the same will now be tweaked accordingly, after the civic body had earlier thought of hiring two or three agencies.
“It will ensure decentralisation of the process and a healthy competition among the agencies for better services too,” Pradeep Dahiya, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Commissioner, said.
The development comes at a time when residents of Gurgaon have called for the municipal corporation to promptly transfer sanitation duties to residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) amid a rising garbage menace in the area. Despite a proposed agreement for RWAs to take over these responsibilities, no formal policy has been established.
The garbage issue in Gurgaon has become a topic of discussion at a time when the city is set to host the national conference on urban local bodies on July 3 and 4 at Manesar.
