Toddler mauled to death by stray dogs in Central Delhi; case lodged
The victim's father, Rahul Kanojia, said he was on his way back from work when he received the news that his daughter had been severely injured in the attack.

A toddler was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in central Delhi’s Tughlaq Lane on Saturday. The victim, one-and-a-half-year-old Divyanshi, was near Dhobi Ghat’s gates in the evening when a pack of five dogs attacked her and dragged her 100 metres away, said her family members.
The victim’s father, Rahul Kanojia, said he was on his way back from work when he received the news that his daughter had been severely injured in the attack.
A case under IPC section pertaining to causing death by negligence has been lodged in the case, said DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla, adding the incident took place around 8 pm.
The case has been lodged against an unknown person who allegedly used to feed the stray dogs. No arrests have been made yet in the case.
Kanojia, meanwhile, is in shock after the incident.
“A passerby on a bicycle saw that the dogs were playing with something in the corner of the street. When he took a closer look, he saw that it was my child,” said Kanojia. “He informed my cousin who rushed her to the hospital. But my child could not survive. How could she?” asked the father.
Divyanshi was declared dead on arrival at Safdarjung Hospital. She is survived by her parents, two older siblings, and her grandparents.
Local residents said the girl had wandered off from her home, situated on the Dhobi Ghat premises, when the dogs attacked her.
A neighbour, Praveen Kumar, said though other children were also playing in the surroundings, the victim’s cries for help could not be heard because of loud music coming from a party nearby.
Kumar alleged that the dogs in the neighbourhood had been a nuisance to the residents for a long time, adding they had attacked a woman on Friday as well.
Kumar said the residents of the locality had often complained to the woman who would feed the stray dogs about the “aggressive behaviour” of the animals.
Meanwhile, the victim’s body was handed over to the family for funeral services on Sunday evening. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi also visited the family. “There can be no greater sorrow than this for parents…I have instructed the officers to submit the inquiry report as soon as possible,” Oberoi wrote on X.
