A 19-year-old woman security guard died at a high-rise society in Ghaziabad after she was allegedly raped by her supervisor inside the society premises on Sunday afternoon, officers said.
The supervisor, identified as Ajay, 32, has been arrested, said ACP (Wave City) Saloni Agrawal. The woman, who was pursuing correspondence studies from a Jharkhand government school, had been working as a guard at the high-rise for more than a month, said officers.
Police received a PCR call from the woman’s co-workers around Sunday evening after which the woman was admitted to Vrindavan Hospital in Greater Noida. She was thereafter referred to Safdarjung Hospital where she passed away.
ACP Agrawal said: “We have lodged an FIR under IPC Section 376D pertaining to gangrape based on a complaint from the woman’s kin. She had stated to them that two other persons other than Ajay had raped her…the FIR has been lodged against Ajay and two other unidentified persons.”
However, police said that in her 164 CrPC statement given at the hospital before a magistrate, the victim named only Ajay who was arrested from inside the housing society and sent to judicial custody.
According to the FIR, the woman was allegedly gangraped inside the basement of the premises.
“We have collected footage from CCTV cameras across the premises and no incremental evidence has been found on record yet…her post-mortem report from the hospital is yet to be received and her viscera sample has been preserved,” police said.
A senior police officer added they were yet to ascertain if the accused had forced the woman to consume the poison.
The victim’s cousin told The Indian Express, “It has been a little more than a month that my sister started working as a guard……she never complained of harassment from her colleagues or supervisors……we lodged a complaint of gangrape as before succumbing, my sister told me that apart from Ajay, two other unidentified persons were involved in the incident. We hope that they are arrested and our sister is brought to justice.”
