Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that people of Gautam Buddha Nagar have got a number of developmental projects such as the airport in Jewar, Film City, Metro, and a dedicated freight corridor, and thus, “it is now their turn to vote for the BJP”.

While the first phase of the airport is set to begin in September-end, work on the Film City project is yet to take off on the ground. “This is the same district which was considered cursed by previous chief ministers. Later, I understood that this was because the bureaucrats sent by them used to impoverish the local people and enrich their ‘own’ people. That is why I decided to personally visit the area,” said Adityanath, addressing a Prabuddha Varg Sammelan organised by the BJP in view of the Lok Sabha election, at GL Bajaj Institute in Greater Noida.

Invoking the 2017 gang rape and murder incident in Jewar, Adityanath said, “I remember before 2017 too people were afraid of Jewar. The horrific incident escalated the fear. Then only I decided to develop the area.”

While targeting the Opposition, Adityanath said earlier people had to face multiple curfews because of riots. “Voh curfew lagaate the, hum Kanwar Yatra nikalte hain (they used to impose curfews while we take out Kanwar Yatra). The government is giving free cylinders, welfare schemes are being implemented at major level. You have got metro, airport, film city and others, now go to vote,” said the CM, while seeking votes for party candidate Mahesh Sharma.

Sharma, a sitting Parliamentarian, said Gautam Buddha Nagar is the economic engine of the state. “The investments in the district have opened up jobs for many people…Nobody ever thought that Metro will run upto Jewar,” said Sharma.

Satendra Sisodia, Western UP region president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said, “The government has ensured safety and honour to the women, and criminals are now afraid of the strong law and order situation in the state.”
