Four years on,Noida More clover leaf flyovers get nod

If all goes according to plan, the traffic chaos at the intersection between NH-24 and the Noida Link Road will soon be a thing of past.

If all goes according to plan, the traffic chaos at the intersection between NH-24 and the Noida Link Road will soon be a thing of past.

After a delay of four years, the Public Works Department (PWD) has managed to get an approval from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) for constructing three additional clover leaf flyovers in the area.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the PWD had earlier announced the plan of constructing three additional cloverleaves on the flyover at Noida More, near Mayur Vihar in East Delhi,to make the stretch signal-free.

After rejecting the proposal on various grounds four times in a row,the DUAC has finally given a conceptual approval to the project. In a recent meeting, the Commission observed that the project proponents needed to “improve the geometry of the turnings and needed to include pedestrian movement in the plan”.

Soon after the DDA handed over the Noida flyover to the PWD in 2005,the agency had announced that three additional clover leaves would be built at the intersection connecting the flyover to the Commonwealth Games Village. According to the PWD,the project was to ensure free flow of traffic on both sides of the Games Village, next to NH-24.

Proposed as a Commonwealth Games project, the PWD was to begin work October last year, and the project was scheduled to be completed before the Games this October.

As per estimates, each of these loops or clover leaves will cost approximately Rs 2 crore and hold the key towards segregating traffic on the Link Road.

The PWD was to construct a slip road,a footpath and a bicycle track on the stretch — at a total cost of Rs 88.68 crore.

The proposal however, failed to impress the DUAC every time it was tabled since August 2008. In an earlier meeting, the DUAC considered the revised proposal for the clover leaves and observed that the model and drawings presented did not match the actual site conditions. It also discussed providing a dedicated lane for a left turn from NH-24 to the Noida road. The DUAC members subsequently visited the site, after which the conceptual approval was granted.
