Four-year-old dies as concrete shed collapses on him in Delhi’s Narela

A four-year-old boy died on Monday after a portion of a concrete shed (chajja) collapsed on him in outer North Delhi’s Narela, police said.

The incident happened around 4 pm in Narela’s Prem Colony, officers said. According to the police, the first floor of the house had an old shed supported by iron girders, with washrooms on both sides. Following rain, a portion of the structure gave way, the officers added. The child, who lived in the same area, was playing outside the house at the time of the incident. He was rushed to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela but was declared dead by doctors.

A team from Narela police station visited the spot. An enquiry has been initiated and appropriate legal action will follow, said police. Preliminary inspection suggested that the structure was old and weakened by rain, officers said.
