Four persons were killed and two others injured in separate accidents in Northeast Delhi early on Monday morning. The victims included a newly-wed couple and a Class XI student.

The first incident was reported from the Jyoti Nagar police station limits. According to police,a family of three was returning after seeing off a relative at the Anand Vihar bus stand when an unidentified vehicle rammed into their motorcycle. “Shahana Parveen Ansari (38),her daughter Nazreen Ansari (21) and Nazreen’s fiance Sikander (21) were riding to their residence in Chand Bagh,Jyoti Nagar, when a vehicle rammed into them from behind a little after 12.30 am. The impact was such that the three were thrown off the bike. They landed on the opposite side of the road, bleeding profusely,” said a senior police officer investigating the case.

After passersby made a PCR call, the three were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital, where Shahana and Nazreen were declared dead on arrival. Though police hoped that Sikander would be able to give a statement,he succumbed to injuries on Monday.

Sikander and Nazreen were engaged, and were expected to be married this November. Shahana was widowed a few years ago. A case has been registered, and a probe is on to identify the vehicle. The bodies have been handed over to the victims’ families. The second incident was reported in the Khajuri Khas police station limits, where a Class XI student and his two friends travelling on a motorcycle died after ramming into a road divider.

According to police, the incident occurred near the CRPF camp in Khajuri Khas, while the victims were returning to their home in Bhajanpura after visiting their tuition teacher. “They were speeding and since it was too dark, the rider did not see the road divider. The bike skid and rammed into the divider, killing 17-year-old Gagan Singh on the spot. His two friends — Himanshu (17) and Arpit (13) — were critically injured. The impact was such that the bike skidded for a few metres before halting at the end of the divider. They were rushed to GTB hospital, where Singh was declared dead on arrival. His two friends are in a critical condition,” said a senior police officer.

While Himanshu and Singh are Class XI students at a government school,Arpit is a Class IX student at a public school.
