Former Tihar warden,3 others held for extortion

A dismissed warden of Tihar Jail and three others have been arrested for masquerading as policemen and targetting hawala operators to extort money,the police said on Saturday.

The police claimed to have solved 15 cases of abduction,kidnapping,robberies,snatching and several cases under Arms Act with the arrests.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mukesh (25),purportedly the gang leader,Nayeemudin (29),Jagjit Singh (36),and Sandeep (36),who was a warden at Tihar till he was dismissed.

The four were arrested from Jor Bagh area on Friday on a tip-off,the police said.

“They used strike at traders who deal in illegal hawala transactions knowing that they would hesitate to lodge a formal complaint with the police,” Deputy Commissioner (South) H G S Dhaliwal said. Three pistols with live cartridges,a knife and three vehicles were recovered from the four,the police said.

According to the police,during interrogation the gang members confessed of having robbed a businessman carrying cash of Rs 35 lakh on Ring road,near Civil Lines.

Stand trial in kidnap for ransom: court
Four persons,including a doctor’s son and an IIT staffer,have been ordered by a city court to stand trial for allegedly kidnapping a businessman’s five-year-old child for a ransom of Rs 12 crore.

Holding that there was sufficient prima facie evidence against the accused,Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma framed penal charges against them under various sections of Indian Penal Code pertaining to kidnapping for ransom,extortion,forgery and criminal conspiracy.

Trial has been ordered against Satbir Singh (22),son of a doctor,Shantanu Sharma (26) from Jia Sarai,Arun (20),son of a Group-D employee of IIT,and Tej Prakash,a storekeeper at IIT.

The accused had allegedly kidnapped Sanju,the son of businessman Sunil Jain,when they were attending a wedding function in Anand Vihar on May 5 and later abandoned him in Munirka.
