(File Photo)A 20-year-old food delivery agent was killed in a road accident after being crushed by a speeding truck near the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), near Vatika Chowk, the Gurgaon police said.
The victim was identified as Vikas, a native of Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh, who was working with Zomato in Gurgaon. The accident occurred on the intervening midnight of Friday and Saturday when Vikas was en route to deliver an order, according to an officer.
He slowed down to make a U-turn near Vatika Chowk, following which a speeding truck struck his motorcycle from the side, said the police. Vikas got trapped under the truck’s front right tyre and was crushed, they added. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which the police have impounded.
An FIR was registered Saturday against the unidentified driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Badshahpur police station. A hunt is underway to nab the accused.
The family of the victim has been informed, and the body has been sent to the mortuary for a postmortem, the police added.
The SPR has been a hotbed of incidents of late. In July and August, there were at least two shooting incidents on the SPR in less than a month. A Delhi man was shot dead in August near the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Sector 77.
In July, singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria was shot at on the SPR section near Badshahpur in Gurgaon’s Sector 71. He escaped unhurt in the incident.
Fazilpuria was allegedly standing near his SUV when the attackers arrived in another car and opened fire. Soon after, the singer got into his car and sped away. The attacker could not chase him due to the traffic, and he reportedly managed to escape.
According to Fazilpuria, the attackers fired at him multiple times, but he was not injured and his vehicle was not damaged. Soon, the police arrested a Sonipat resident who allegedly carried out the shooting’s recce.
