Jamia Millia Islamias new Vice-Chancellor Najeeb Jung on Friday called it a fallacious argument that the university should have only career academics as its vice-chancellor.
The retired IAS officer, who assumed charge on Thursday, today told mediapersons: I dont think it is any different from what I have done before. Many great universities of the world have had people from outside academia.
While a large chunk of questions was about the encounter at Batla House last September,Jung said he is not fully aware of the incident as he was in England at the time. I havent read the report on Batla, he said. He added that he does not want to get diverted, for his focus will remain on students welfare.
Jung did not elaborate on his plans for the university. I am still new it is only my second day, he said. Please give me a few weeks time. Jung also praised the work done by his predecessor Professor Mushirul Hasan.
