A fire broke out at a building in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden market around 2 pm Monday due to suspected short circuit. While no casualty has been reported so far, people were seen jumping off the building situated on the corner where Najafgarh Road meets Police Station Road.

“The building that houses several commercial establishments, including Jungle Jamboree restaurant and MAAC, a media and entertainment institute, was partially affected by the blaze”, said Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg. He added that the businesses on the ground floor sustained lesser damage.

“No casualties have been reported, though one person was injured while being rescued and is receiving medical treatment for minor injuries,” said Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi). He added that the fire was brought under control by eight fire tenders.

A fire officer said the restaurant in the building allegedly did not have the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) or Fire Safety Certificate (FSC).

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation Department, in a statement, said it had ordered closure of the establishment following withdrawal of the Fire Safety Certificate in October. In November, it revoked the Health Trade License of the establishment.

“A fire incident occurred today at A-23, First Floor, Rajouri Garden, New Delhi-110027, due to a short circuit in the wiring. The fire was swiftly controlled by the Delhi Fire Service Department. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported,” it stated.

The officer said that establishment owners have been instructed to account for all individuals present during the blaze.
