FIR to be filed against special cell officers of Delhi Police

Delhi court directed the city police commissioner to initiate criminal proceedings against an ACP.

A Delhi court today directed the city police commissioner to initiate criminal proceedings against an ACP and three officers of its elite special cell for allegedly extorting money from people by threatening them to implicate in a false case.

The court passed the order after it came to the conclusion that these police officials had framed some persons in a false case in order to extort money from them.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav, while acquitting all the accused in a case, asked the Delhi Police chief to register FIR against its Special Cell’s ACP Ravi Shanker,Inspector Anil Dureja,Sub Inspector Gajender and head constable Hari Kishan.

The court expressed deep concern over the misuse of power by the Special Cell which was specially created to deal with cases of terrorists and anti-social elements.

“This case is a classic example of how and to what extent the police officers can go in framing persons, committing extortion and then make them to suffer the ignominy of criminal prosecution by sheer misuse of power of investigation granted to them under the Code of Criminal Procedure.

“The concerned police officers are of Special Cell, which is supposed to be a premier investigating agency of Delhi Police specially created to deal with the cases of terrorists and anti-social elements,” the court said.
