A day after two children — aged 9 and 10 — died at Vasant Vihar in a wall collapse incident, the police on Friday lodged an FIR against unknown persons under Section 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The two boys died when the wall collapsed at 4.44 pm at Basant Nagar. “The children were sitting on stairs located alongside the wall. The wall belongs to the Delhi Development Authority and is suspected to have weakened due to prolonged rain and waterlogging in the area,” DCP (South West) Amit Goel said.
Police said structure had considerably weakened due to its age, and crumbled in wake of heavy rainfall in the Capital. The two children, who lived in neighboring jhuggis, belonged to migrant families from Bihar. Their parents work as daily wage labourers, an officer said.
