Trilock Chand Gaur has been camping on the banks of the canal near Massorie village for the past five days. His 18-year-old son Akshay allegedly drowned in the canal while taking a bath with friends on November 18. With the police failing to find the body of the victim, the father has now employed divers to find his son’s body.

A B.Tech first-year student at Ganpati Institute of Technology,Akshay was the youngest of Gaur’s four children, the other three being girls. Gaur works as manager in a factory manufacturing snacks.

Akshay bunked college along with five friends to go to the canal at Dera Ki Jhaal. Most of the boys knew how to swim and jumped into the water as soon as they reached the spot. It was only later that they realised that Akshay was missing and informed the police. The police claim they tried their best to find the boy and deployed drivers, but in vain. “The father has also employed private divers made available by the police. The body should be recovered soon as it takes time for bodies to come up in winters,” said Ghaziabad (Rural) SP Capt M M Baig.

But the boy’s father is not ready to accept that his son drowned. “He went to the institute in the college bus. I do not know how he got out of the college along with friends to take a dip in the canal afterwards. Moreover,my son never used to go near water. I find it hard to believe that he went to a canal to take a dip,” said Gaur, who has now hired divers at around Rs 5,000 per day to find the body.

“His mother will not be able to take it. We have to break the news to her,but I have to find my son’s body first. She won’t be able to bear the loss if we are not able to confirm the fact that he died due to drowning,” he said.

Akshay was supposed to appear in court on November 19 as his girlfriend’s father had registered a case of kidnapping against the boy in Indirapuram.
