The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI and also disposed of his bail plea but granted him liberty to move the trial court for the relief.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna pronounced in the open court that the CBI’s arrest of Kerjiwal “cannot be said to be without justifiable reasons or as illegal”.
The detailed order is yet to be made public.
Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26, though the FIR had been registered in August 2022, but without naming him as an accused. The CBI arrest came weeks after he was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the excise policy.
In the CBI case, Kejriwal is facing corruption charges related to the now-scrapped excise policy.
Kejriwal earlier argued before the high court that the CBI arrest was an “insurance arrest” to ensure that he stayed in prison.
