Members of two gangs wanted in cases of carjacking and theft were arrested by the Gurgaon police on Saturday.
On the run for over one and a half years, the gang members were nabbed in the Sohna-Ballabhgarh area by the Crime Branch after residents informed them about cars being stolen in the area, police said.
Police claimed that six members of the gang Yusuf,Rafique,Majlis,Fakruddin,Liaqat and Azad were caught stealing cars at gunpoint.
Vivek Sharma,Joint Commissioner of Police (Gurgaon),said: Police have recovered 13 motorcycles, four tractors and numerous other paraphernalia such as two pistols and cartridges. They are daily wagers and natives of Rajasthan and Mewat. They were allegedly involved in numerous cases of stealing automobiles, changing their number plates by using fillers so that no
one could recognise that these were stolen vehicles. These cars would then be sold off at a better price. Each gang member has stolen and sold about 60-70 vehicles. We are yet to find out if the gang was also forging documents,to sell vehicles. Initial investigations have hinted in that direction. An FIR has been registered against the accused. They were active in Delhi and NCR.
Police said that the gang had a large network in NCR and the number of members could only be ascertained after thorough investigation. Three of the six men have been arrested for the first time and were allegedly operating in Gurgaon for around two years.
Meanwhile, two members of the Babu Khan gang, whose leader was arrested a month back, were nabbed from Bakhtawar Chowk.
Police said six cars were found in their possession. They have been involved in stealing cars from DLF and nearby areas. They had been operating in NCR for the past three months.
