With two days to go before Delhi University votes for its student union, allegations and counter-allegations flew thick and fast between rivals National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

While the NSUI has alleged that the ABVP attempted to attack its DUSU poll presidential candidate, Hitesh Gulia, by vandalising his vehicle, the latter claimed it is the Congress-backed outfit that is roaming about campus with sticks.

A purported video emerged on social media Tuesday where a group of individuals can be seen vandalising a car that had a banner with Gulia’s name on it. The ABVP has denied these allegations.

In its statement Tuesday, NSUI claimed “Gulia’s supporters were attacked two days ago by ABVP’s goons and supporters of its (presidential candidate) Tushar Dedha”.

Speaking to The Indian Express, NSUI National Secretary Nitish Gaur claimed: “A few members from the ABVP broke the car of our presidential candidate last night around 12 am-1 am at Arts Faculty in North Campus.”

Rejecting the claims, Ashutosh Singh, National Media Convenor, ABVP, alleged: “We have videos which show that NSUI’s candidate members are going around the campus with sticks and guns.”

DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Kumar Meena said they are yet to receive a complaint. “Legal action will be taken as per the complaint,” he said.
