Delhi University’s Ramjas College and Deshbandhu College received bomb threat emails early Wednesday, prompting immediate evacuation of their premises. Both threats turned out to be hoax, said police.

Police said the threats were received around 2 am on the official email IDs of the colleges. Around 8 am, the administration of Ramjas College came across the email and notified the authorities.

“Today morning, the principal of Ramjas College reported that they received a bomb threat through email at 1.59 am,” said DCP (North) Raja Banthia.

Police said multiple bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS), fire tenders and sniffer dogs were dispatched to both colleges, while all staff and students were moved to open areas.

The email said that three RDX-based explosives have been planted in the colleges by ISI-backed operatives to “divert attention”. “With the collusion of Pak ISI cells, who were provided safe haven in Coimbatore, this operation to blast 2 colleges in Delhi was planned for today. Please evacuate all students and staffs by Noon to be safe,” the email read.

The sender also claimed that he was part of the conspiracy but now wants to become an informer. “I was part of the planning phase, but I want to become informer and get witness protection. First, call BDDS and prevent the devices from activating,” the email added.

This is the third such bomb threat sent to institutions in Delhi since the November 10 bomb blast outside the Red Fort.

On November 20, British School and Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Modern School on Barakhamba Road, and Doon School had received bomb threat emails. They turned out to be a hoax.

The emails claimed that bombs had been “booby-trapped” inside the schools. The messages also urged people to evacuate, warning that failure to do so would leave the responsibility of saving hundreds of lives with the authorities.

On November 18, three district courts in Delhi — Saket, Rohini and Patiala House — along with two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)-run schools received bomb threats. The email, sent in the name of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), claimed that explosives had been planted on the court premises and in the schools. The threats also turned out to be a hoax.

In May 2024, similar hoax bomb threats were received by multiple DU colleges, including Lady Shri Ram, Hansraj and Ramjas, but nothing suspicious was found on the premises.
