DU prof questioned again,no ‘Maoist links’ found

The questioning,which went on for around three hours,did not reveal anything to link him with Maoists or their leader Kobad Ghandy,officials said.

“He has not been charged under yet,as nothing has been found against him. He says he knows one Krishna Rao but the person arrested by Andhra Police is not him (Rao),” a senior officer said.

The Andhra Pradesh Police has also taken in its possession books on literature about Marxism found on Mandiwal,officials said. Police had confiscated 178 books on Marxist literature from him on Sunday.

Speaking to Newsline on Monday,Mandiwal said,“I don’t have any links with Maoists. I know one Krishna Rao,but he is not the one who has been allegedly arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Police.”

According to the officials,the Intelligence agencies were keeping an eye on Mandiwal’s movements since 2005. The agencies even asked him about his stay in Delhi and his visits.

On Monday,Mandiwal was questioned at the Pushp Vihar office of Special Staff from 12.30 pm to 3 pm. A group of teachers and his friends,meanwhile,held a protest demanding his release outside the Special Staff office.

Delhi Police officials said the Andhra Police is investigating the case and that they are only helping them.

Mandiwal was picked up for questioning on Sunday after a team of police arrived in Delhi from Andhra Pradesh.
