While patrolling near Malkaganj Chowk on November 12, two officers spotted the suspects and their distinctive yellow motorcycle. The duo, Mohd Faizan, 27, and Mohd Saqib, 27, were stopped and searched. When officers searched Faizan, they found him in possession of four mobile phones, which he could not account for.
Raja Banthia, DCP North, said, “During his interrogation, Faizan disclosed that on November 7, he and another accomplice, Rafiq, had committed the snatching in Maurice Nagar. He also disclosed that the phone had been sold to a person called Nooruddin. Nooruddin was subsequently arrested and the phone was recovered from him. On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that a person, Kashim, provided the motorcycle on rent to commit snatching and would take a share of the stolen items as commission.” Rafiq and Kashim were also arrested on November 12.
The police said that the arrested men have a history of criminal activities. Faizan has previous charges for robbery, snatching, and theft against him and is a known offender in the Sadar Bazar area. Saqib, released from jail in May this year, also has a history of snatching. Rafiq has previous cases in Lahori Gate and DBG Road.
