Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena took on Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, stating that in the recently-concluded Assembly elections, the “people of Delhi have responded” to the AAP national convener’s “inappropriate and negative” remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“There is no doubt that Kejriwal ji has said a lot of inappropriate and negative things about the Prime Minister Narendra Modi… He even said that he will have to re-born to win the Delhi elections… I just want to say that whenever a person considers another person as small, either they are watching from a great distance or seeing them with their ego… and the people of Delhi have responded to it,” he said after his address to the House.
Kejriwal, the former Delhi Chief Minister, was defeated by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh from the New Delhi constituency in the February 5 elections, a seat he had won thrice.
Addressing the newly-constituted eighth Delhi Assembly, Saxena outlined the BJP government’s vision and priorities for the Capital. He maintained that the government’s agenda was clear – developing Delhi, razing down garbage mountains, cleaning Yamuna and working for the welfare of the poor.
Taking a dig at the previous AAP government, Saxena said that the politics of constant confrontation and blame game in the last 10 years has harmed Delhi. He added that the government will work in coordination with the Centre and states following the principles of the PM’s “cooperative and competitive federalism”.
“My Government firmly believes that the legislature is the cornerstone of parliamentary democracy, and the primary duty of this esteemed House… However, over the past 10 years, this practice has completely vanished from this House, replaced instead by indecent and unparliamentary conduct. On many occasions, this House has been misused to insult people holding constitutional posts,” he said.
Saxena added that the government will ensure that parliamentary decorum is properly followed and this House discusses and deliberates in the interest of the people of Delhi.
Maintaining that the people have expressed their faith in the government and the promises contained in its manifesto by giving it a massive mandate, Saxena said, “This mandate is a positive symbol of the aspirations of the people and reflects their hopes and expectations, which have been ignored and neglected till now… My government sees this massive mandate as an acceptance of the policy changes we had promised to the people.”
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s basic mantra ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas and Sabka Samman’ will determine the direction of my government,” he added.
Saxena said that in the next five years, the government is will focus on corruption-free efficient administration, empowerment of women, welfare of the poor, improvement in health facilities and education system, world class road transport network, clean and pollution-free Delhi, revival of Yamuna river, clean water, regularisation of unauthorised colonies and affordable housing.
Further, he said, the BJP government’s first priority in the coming few months will be to fix roads, drains, sewer lines, health facilities and drinking water facilities. He also said that the government will focus on promoting revenue collection and implementing schemes to increase employment.
Saxena said that the government will adopt the ‘Viksit Delhi’ resolution as a policy document. “This policy document will be the top priority of the government,” he added.
“Along with this, my government will make the weak and corrupt government system, which was hidden behind the illusion of advertisements, corruption-free… with immediate effect,” he said.
He added that the government will implement Ayushman Bharat Yojana; give cash dole of Rs 2,500 to woman, LPG cylinders to women from poor family for Rs 500 and nutrional kits to pregnant women; and also set up Atal canteens, among others.
