Delhi News Live Updates: IMD issues orange, yellow alerts in most parts of NCR

As many as 15 flights were diverted at the Delhi airport on Tuesday due to heavy rain in the national capital, according to an official.

Heavy rain lashed several parts of the national capital on Tuesday afternoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for Delhi, forecasting moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning.

The official said that out of the 15 flights, 8 were diverted to Jaipur, 5 to Lucknow and 2 to Chandigarh. --PTI

Delhi's first artificial rain trial has been postponed, even as the aircraft fitted with cloud-seeding equipment for the experiment stands ready in Meerut, officials said on Monday.

The trial will be conducted as soon as weather conditions improve.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa along with officials of the environment department and a technical team from IIT Kanpur inspected the aircraft on Monday to ensure all systems required for the trial were in place, an official familiar said.

Sirsa said the trial could be conducted "any day" once the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirms a clear-weather window. --PTI

Owing to rainfall, the visibility across Delhi-NCR reduced from 6000 metres at 1.30 pm to 1200 metres by 5 pm on Tuesday, IMD records show.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said moderate thunderstorm with wind speed from 40 to 60 kmph, accompanied by lightning and hail, are very likely over parts of Central Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, North Delhi during the next few hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Delhi and parts of NCR on Tuesday, warning of moderate to heavy rains and strong winds. It is likely that rain will continue till late evening on Tuesday. 

Light rain is also expected on Tuesday morning, after which skies are likely to turn partly cloudy with maximum temperatures around 30-31°C and minimums near 23°C. The improved weather conditions may help bring the AQI down to the “satisfactory” range.

Heavy rain lashed Delhi and the NCR on Monday evening, shortly after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow’ alert in the afternoon. The weather office predicted a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds blowing at 30–40 kmph, reaching up to 50 kmph.

Delhi Weather News Live Updates: As of Monday morning, Anand Vihar remained the most polluted station at 205 AQI (‘poor’), while Lodhi Road station reported the cleanest air at 78 (‘satisfactory’). Although the average PM 2.5 levels at the station — 63 micrograms per cubic metre — was just above the permissible limit of 60, average PM 10 levels stayed within the 100 microgram limit at 78.
