Delhi UPSC aspirants drowning case: Court grants regular bail to Rau’s former CEO
Last October, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against six accused

A Delhi court on Monday granted regular bail to Rau’s IAS coaching centre’s former CEO Abhishek Gupta and centre coordinator Deshpal Singh in the case related to the death of three IAS aspirants who drowned in the flooded basement of the coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar in July last year.
Gupta and Singh were granted a regular bail on furnishing personal bonds of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties of the like amount. They were on interim bail till now.
Last October, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against six accused. Other than Gupta and Singh, the co-owners of the building where Rau’s IAS was allegedly running a library in the basement — Parvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, and Tajinder Singh — were also named.
According to the chargesheet, the danger of flooding in the basement “could be fathomed by an ordinary passerby”, and by allowing the students to use the basement, the coaching centre risked their lives.
There was moderate rainfall — as per India Meteorological Department standards — on July 27, as a result of which, the main road in front of Rau’s IAS got flooded, the chargesheet highlights.
The CBI further alleged that the drainage system in the locality was inadequate to withstand the floodwater. The chargesheet, however, pointed out that no pipe of the Delhi Jal Board had burst in the area on the day of the incident.
