Delhi will soon have over 1,200 acres of land for industrial activity following Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s approval to develop a significant chunk of land in Kanjhawala as an industrial area.

L-G House officials said the move, as per which 920 acres in the area will be developed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), will make the region one of the biggest industrial areas in Delhi.

In addition to Kanjhawala, the L-G has also paved the way for the development of another 300 acres in Baprola village as an industrial area, officials added, to provide a total of 1220 acres for industrial development in the National Capital.

Saxena has directed the Industries Department to get the land use of the available land parcel in Baprola changed to “industrial” in consultation with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

“Out of the 300 acres in Baprola, DSIIDC is in the possession of 137.63 acres of which land use of only 55.20 acres of land is industrial; the land use of the remaining 82.43 acres needs to be changed and notified as industrial by the DDA,” officials said.

After the L-G’s approval, the DSIIDC will notify Kanjhawala as an industrial area following which a number of units, like information technology and related units, food processing, media, electronics and telecommunication, textile, electrical goods and appliances, automobile, furniture, fixtures and machinery among others can operate in the region.

The development of these areas, officials said, is aimed at facilitating regulated industrial growth in Delhi. With this move, the illegal operation of hundreds of industrial units from commercial or residential areas that often cause mishaps and unregulated pollution is expected to be contained to a great extent, they added.

“As part of industrial area development, the DSIIDC will create a road network, sewage and drainage system, solid waste management system, horticulture development, firefighting system, electrical, telecommunication and other maintenance and provision services in these areas as well,” officials added.
