Delhi road rage: Five men beat up court clerk, his friend — for honking

Five men travelling in a Thar and a BMW allegedly beat up a Rohini court clerk and his friend for honking at a Dwarka market early Sunday, police said.

The incident allegedly took place around 2.30 am, when Manoj Kumar (34) reached Dwarka’s Sector 10 market in his Swift, accompanied by three friends. The police said they arrived at a night kitchen, Hash Tag, in the market and honked to call a worker. This allegedly enraged two men sitting in a nearby Thar, who started hurling abuses at Manoj and his friends.

According to the FIR, lodged based on a police complaint filed by Manoj, when he went to speak to the men in the Thar, two persons came out and started throwing punches at him.

The FIR stated that as the fight escalated, three to four men from a nearby BMW arrived and started beating Manoj and his friend, Kunal. One of the men from the BMW allegedly hit Manoj and Kunal on the head with an empty beer bottle, it added.

The accused, allegedly in the 20-25 age group, then took stones and smashed the windows of the Swift. The FIR said that when Kunal made a PCR call, the accused fled.

In another incident, two men who had allegedly opened fire after a woman, who was travelling with her husband on a bike, objected to them obstructing their way, have been arrested from Central Delhi’s Kamla Market area on July 28, said police.

The incident took place on July 25 near Mohalla Nihariyan Chowk in Ajmeri Gate. The husband has alleged that while he was on his way to his in-laws’ house with his wife and children on a motorcycle, two men on a scooter came in their way. When his wife asked them why they did not honk, the scooter rider abused them, and the pillion rider opened fire before fleeing.

DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan identified the accused as Mohammad Amaan alias Tota (19) and Noman (19). While the scooter was recovered from Amaan, a pistol was recovered from Noman, the DCP added.
