The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the Shastri Park hit-and-run case early on Monday in which a canter truck mowed down three people and injured two others sleeping on the central verge of a road.
Arjun, a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, was turned in by the truck’s owner to the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) on Wednesday, and he was subsequently arrested by the police.
The truck’s owner, Rahul Singh, told the police Arjun had been working as a driver for him for the past five years. The police’s investigation also revealed that the truck had five challans pending against it, with the most recent issued in December 2022.
The police said Arjun was driving the canter truck through Shastri Park from Seelampur on Monday at around 4.30 am, and was on his way to the Iron Bridge when he lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the central verge. Arjun fled the spot, leaving the truck behind, they added.
