The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to two accused in 2023 Parliament security breach case, namely, Neelam Ranolia alias Azad and Mahesh Kumawat. The bench provided relief to them relief, subject to them, avoiding giving any interviews or appearances in press conferences, while also barring them from posting on social media, as well as reporting to their local police station thrice a week. The two have also been instructed not to leave the territory of Delhi. On the first day of the fuel ban on end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) — diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles over 15 years – in Delhi, about 80 vehicles were seized, and 98 people, whose vehicles could not be impounded, were issued notices on Tuesday, a senior officer from the Delhi Transport department told The Indian Express. As per the new rule, Delhi will no longer provide fuel to end-of-life (EoL) vehicles starting July 1 under the directions of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

Rain likely in Delhi today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its forecast, has predicted rainfall along with thunderstorms across parts of Delhi on Wednesday. The minimum temperature in Delhi settles at 26 degrees Celsius today, while the maximum temperatures are likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius.

Delhi gets DGCA nod for first cloud seeding trials to tackle air pollution; ‘historic achievement’, says Minister Manjinder Sirsa

Delhi has become the first state in India to receive final clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for conducting cloud seeding trials aimed at reducing pollution, according to officials in the Environment Department.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced the development on Tuesday, calling it a “historic achievement” and a major step forward in Delhi’s fight against air pollution. Cloud seeding has been spoken about for years but never implemented, Sirsa said.

The method involves dispersing hygroscopic particles like sodium chloride below the cloud layer to encourage rainfall and help wash out pollutants from the atmosphere.

Delhi HC upholds injunction order stopping luggage-maker VIP from using ‘Carlton’ mark

A division bench of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed appeals challenging an injunction order against Indian luggage manufacturer VIP Industries from using the mark ‘Carlton’.

A division bench of Justices C Hari Shankar and Ajay Digpaul upheld a single judge’s order of July 17, 2023, ruling that Carlton Shoes Limited (CSL) had “goodwill of the CARLTON mark, as used by it in India, prior to the commencement of user of the CARLTON mark by VIP in 2006”.

The bench ruled that “the goodwill that is required to be established in order to sustain a claim of passing off is goodwill in the mark, and not goodwill in the mark as used for any particular goods or services.”

While two of the accused jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and opened smoke canisters that released yellow gas, outside the Parliament premises, two others — Amol Shinde and Neelam Azad — sprayed coloured gases from canisters while shouting “tanashahi nahi chalegi (dictatorship won’t be allowed)”.

The six accused were later arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the Delhi Police Special Cell.

80 vehicles seized, notices sent to 98 on first day of ban on fuel sale to old cars

On the first day of the fuel ban on end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) — diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles over 15 years – in Delhi, about 80 vehicles were seized, and 98 people, whose vehicles could not be impounded, were issued notices on Tuesday, a senior officer from the Delhi Transport department told The Indian Express.

350 teams from various departments, including the Delhi Police, the MCD and the Transport department, have been stationed 24×7 across the 498 petrol pumps in the Capital.

As per the new rule, Delhi will no longer provide fuel to end-of-life (EoL) vehicles starting July 1 under the directions of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). This measure has been taken to curb air pollution in the city, with the air quality in Delhi dipping every year especially during winters.

According to the CAQM directive, all EoL vehicles — including diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years — will be prohibited from being refuelled in Delhi, irrespective of their state of registration.

Delhi records minimum temperature of 27.6 deg C, thunderstorms with rain likely today

Delhi on Wednesday recorded a minimum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The relative humidity was recorded at 74 per cent at 8.30 am, as per a PTI report.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 35 degrees Celsius.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 85, in the 'satisfactory' category, at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board, PTI reported.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the weather office predicting light to moderate rain.

Relative humidity was recorded at 85 per cent at 8.30 am.

A yellow alert (Be Aware) has been issued for Delhi. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.

The maximum temperature is expected to settled at 32 degrees Celsius.

Delhi News Live Updates: AI cameras, traffic police teams deployed at pumps

The Delhi government has installed Automatic Number Plate reader cameras (ANPR) at nearly 350 petrol pumps across the national capital for detection of such vehicles.

The transport department has chalked out a detailed deployment plan involving personnel from its organisation, Delhi Police, Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Multiple teams of transport department, traffic police and local police have been deployed at different petrol pumps in South Delhi. (PTI)
