Parts of New Delhi and adjoining NCR areas witnessed early morning showers on Thursday, bringing in much-needed relief from the prolonged heatwave that the region had been witnessing.
Amid heavy rain, a wall of a vacant plot collapsed in Vasant Kunj area. No one was injured in the incident. “We are investigating the matter. CCTV footage shows no one was around when the wall collapsed,” a senior police officer told PTI.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “yellow” alert for the next three days. The met department, in its forecast today, predicted generally cloudy skies with very light rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds with speed of up to 25 to 35 kilometres per hour. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 38 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively.
The weather forecast issued on Wednesday said the Capital will record moderate to heavy rain from June 30 and the mercury will dip till 38 degree Celsius on Friday to 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday to 34 degrees Celsius on Sunday. For June 30, IMD has issued an orange alert, meaning to be prepared.

The Capital has seen nine heatwave days in June so far. On Wednesday also, parts of Delhi received light rain and Palam, Aya Nagar and Ridge recorded 2.3 mm, 1.3 mm and 1.3 mm of rainfall respectively in the evening.
After being above 40 degree Celsius for 40 consecutive days, it was only last Saturday that mercury dipped below the 40 degree mark.
As per the weather department’s forecast on Wednesday, the southwest monsoon onset over Delhi was expected shortly and the monsoon is expected to cover the entire country in early July, ahead of its normal schedule of July 15.
