The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the last date for geo-tagging properties to February 29. The MCD had announced on December 5 that the citizens of the national capital will have to mandatorily geotag their properties if they wish to apply for tax exemptions.

The MCD had earlier announced that all 1.5 million property owners will have to geo-tag their properties by January 31. Geo-tagging of properties by taxpayers will help the MCD in location-wise identification of individual properties.

“It has come to notice that a large number of taxpayers using iPhone (iOS version) due to some technical glitches or due to some other reasons, property taxpayers have not been able to geo-tag their properties by the due date. This issue is being handled on priority and will soon be resolved. However, in view of the difficulties faced, it has been decided to extend the last date of geo-tagging of properties by taxpayers till 29 February 2024,” the MCD said in a statement on Tuesday.

“If the taxpayers fail to geo-tag their property, they cannot avail the rebate on lump sum payment of tax by 30 June 2024 in the next financial year (2024-25). All property owners/occupiers, who have not geo-tagged their properties so far are requested to geo-tag their property by the due date i.e. 29th February 2024,” the MCD said.

Properties can be geotagged using the MCD app or the civic body’s online portal, which enables owners to geo-tag their property themselves.
