On Thursday, the Delhi Police received a complaint from the parents of a six-year-old boy who alleged he was hit by his school teacher. But the school in Shri Ram Colony, which is run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, has said the child was never on their rolls. The attendance register, however, states that both the six-year-old and his brother were enrolled at the school on December 6, 2024. According to the parents, the boy was physically assaulted allegedly by his school teacher on Monday and his ear started bleeding. The parents first went to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital and a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report was given to them on February 18. They filed a police complaint on Thursday. In the initial report received from the Education Director’s office on Tuesday, the school denied the incident and said the child was not enrolled. The Director of Education told The Indian Express Friday, “Yes, the written report does state that there is no such student enrolled. and that a child is enrolled in their school with the same name but the name of the father is not a match. We have formed an inquiry committee to dig deeper into the incident and to check if the school authorities are hiding something.” The mother of the student, who is enrolled in the evening shift, said, “When he came back home from school on Monday, his ear was bleeding. We asked him what had happened and he told us he was going to the water cooler to drink water when the teacher slapped him thrice, which caused his ear to bleed. I rushed to his school to confront his teacher but by then, it was past school hours and everyone had left. The school gates were closed.” She added, “We enrolled him at this school two months ago, along with his elder brother. There are several issues at school. but slapping a six-year-old cannot be tolerated. We’ve been calling the principal and the teachers but there’s been no response.” The parents said they had initially ignored the ear bleeding on Monday but decided to take their son to the hospital the next day after he felt nauseous and started vomiting. Police sources said the complainant had made a PCR call on Tuesday but did not file a complaint till Thursday. DCP (Northeast) Ashish Mishra said an FIR has been registered against the teacher under Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing harm) of the BNS and Section 75 (act of cruelty against a child) of the JJ Act.
