Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi inspected the health facilities at Maharishi Valmiki Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kingsway Camp and expressed concern over the infrastructure in the hospital and the staff shortage there, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The inspection revealed that the infrastructure of the hospital needed immediate repairs and Oberoi instructed the officials to prepare a report with estimates of repair requirements. She also visited several wards, including the maternity ward and child care centre, chickenpox ward and the X-ray department, and expressed concern over the defunct X-ray machine.
During the inspection, the mayor also interacted with patients and inquired about the services at the hospital.
The hospital is currently experiencing a shortage of doctors and nurses and Oberoi stressed the need for adequate staff and necessary facilities to ensure better health services. The statement said that cleanliness, education, and healthcare are the priorities of the present government.
“We are committed to providing high-level health services through the municipal corporation. We are confident that these efforts will bring about positive changes which will benefit the people,” Oberoi said.
Deputy Commissioner B P Bhardwaj, Councillor Promila Gupta, Hospital Superintendent Dr Mansi Anand, Deputy Superintendent Subrat Rai and other officers were also present with the mayor.
