Six years after he duped two passengers travelling to Ethiopia, a former Indian national was arrested earlier this week for allegedly arranging illegal CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) for people looking to travel abroad. Delhi Police identified the accused as Guramritpal Singh Multani alias Pali (52), a permanent resident of Canada, who resided in the Hamilton region of Ontario. On September 29, he was among the 52 accused arrested from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad for allegedly forging visas, passports and documents to facilitate quick foreign travels. “IGI Airport in Delhi had filed a complaint in September 2019, alleging 9 Indian passengers have been deported from Ethiopia on the grounds of possessing fake CDC issued by the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Government of Samoa. The Government of Samoa had confirmed that the said CDCs were not issued by it,” DCP (IGI) Vichitra Veer said. "Investigation revealed that two passengers paid Rs 20 lakh each to Multani, who gave them Samoan CDCs, claiming that they were originals," said an officer. Singh was first booked in 2019 for this, police said. “He returned to India on September 29, and was immediately arrested at Ahmedabad airport. During questioning, Guramritpal Singh Multani alias Pali revealed that he used to take part in international kabaddi tournaments when he was in college. Thereafter, he moved to Canada with his family in 1995. In 1999, he was awarded the Permanent Residency of Canada, along with his family. Seeking quick and easy money, he got into touch with some agents and started sending people abroad on fraudulent documents,” Veer said. In all, seven cases were found registered against Multani, and his links to other agents are being established, police said. In September alone, Delhi Police arrested 52 people in cases related to forging of passports and documents in order to arrange foreign travel.
