Delhi L-G inaugurates 2.7-km cycle track along Nehru Park

To ensure safety, 90 red sandstone bollards, 228 hazard markers, 227 solar studs, 191 speed breakers, and 115 cycle track signages have been installed.

A 2.7-km-long cycle track along the periphery of Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri was inaugurated by L-G V K Saxena Thursday. The park is situated on Vinay Marg and Africa Avenue, connecting New Delhi to South Delhi, and is adjacent to the Shanti Path-Rao Tularam stretch. The track was developed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

During the inauguration, Saxena praised the NDMC for constructing the cycle track, emphasising that it would promote cycling among people of all ages while providing a safe route for cyclists.

Recognising the needs of the residents of the area, which includes many diplomats and top government officials, NDMC envisioned a dedicated cycle track around Nehru Park. The project was planned by the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, and developed at Rs 4.56 crore.

The cycle track is 2.7 km in length, with a width varying from 2 to 4 metres. It is illuminated by 176 cast iron decorative poles fitted with warm LED lights to enhance the area’s aesthetics and blend with the surrounding environment. Additionally, the track includes road signage and markings for cyclist convenience.

Given the number of cyclists around Nehru Park, the NDMC believed that a dedicated cycle track would greatly benefit cycling enthusiasts.
