Over 300 advocates had applied for the coveted designation.The Delhi High Court Wednesday conducted its penultimate interview of a batch of advocates who have applied for the designation of a senior advocate. The High Court’s Committee for Designation of Senior Advocates has been conducting the interviews of the candidates, 302 in total, over five days, the last scheduled for November 19.
On October 24, the Delhi HC’s administration issued the interview schedule. According to a source, the Committee comprises Chief Justice Manmohan as the chairperson of the permanent committee and Justices Vibhu Bakhru and Yashwant Varma, two senior-most HC judges as members. It also has Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, Senior Advocate Sudhir Nandrajog — nominated by the administrative committee of the HC out of the names proposed by the Delhi Government — and Senior Advocate and Delhi HC Bar Association president Mohit Mathur, nominated by the Bar, as members.
Two retired judicial officers from the Delhi Higher Judicial Services — Narinder Paul Kaushik and Vinay Kumar Gupta — are among those who have applied for the conferment of senior advocate designation.
With around 60 candidates scheduled for interviews each day, groups of lawyers, at least 10 in each group, are being interviewed at a time by the permanent committee. As many as 62 candidates were scheduled for interviews on November 13 and 61 others are scheduled for November 19.
