Ahead of the Delhi Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday, over 200 Delhi Police personnel have found that they did not make it to the final list of participants.

According to a senior Delhi Police officer, 871 personnel — from the ranks of constable to DCP — had been training for the marathon for months.

“Of the 871 Delhi Police personnel, 171 women have been selected for the marathon. However, 271 men were rejected from the final list. We don’t know why,” a sub-inspector, whose name didn’t figure in the list, told The Indian Express.

“When we contacted the organisers, we were given vague answers,” the officer said.

The organisers, however, said there was a cap on the numner of personnel who could participate from the Delhi Police. “The figure was 600. This has been communicated to the Delhi Police. The 271 personnel were rejected from their side,” an official from the organising committee said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Second Battalion) Sandeep Bayala, meanwhile, said the organisers had cited issues with registration forms. Police are in talks with them to ensure that all 871 personnel can participate, he added.

Over 40,000 runners are expected to participate in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2025, which will start from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 5 am on Sunday. Carl Lewis (64), a former track and field athlete from the United States, is the International Event Ambassador for this year’s race.
