Officials have been instructed to ensure that cleanliness campaigns are conducted in hospitals, dispensaries, etc.

Delhi government offices will function on October 2 — a gazetted holiday — after a circular was issued asking officials to be present in their offices for the launch of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, a national sanitation scheme, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

On Thursday, Delhi Chief Secretary DM Spolia asked officials to “administer a pledge of cleanliness to all staff members in their offices at 9 am on October 2.”

The Delhi government, in an official statement, said officials will have to ensure that inspections of offices take place after the programme has been launched. “These instructions were issued by Spolia in the high-level meeting of heads of departments convened by him on Thursday,” the statement reads.

Delhi MLAs too will be asked by the chief secretary to “carry out cleanliness drives in their respective areas and involve citizens, RWAs and NGOs in the campaign,” the statement reads.

Officials have also been instructed to ensure that cleanliness campaigns are conducted in hospitals, dispensaries, children homes, night shelters, inter-state bus terminals, schools and public toilets.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has also been instructed to launch the drive in jhuggi-jhopri clusters and night shelters.

In order to track work done as part of the campaign, secretaries have also been asked to provide a calendar of events from October 2-30.

Further, they have been asked to submit the calendar to the Secretary (Urban Development).
