Days after an American national reported that her wallet was stolen when she was out shopping in Chhatarpur’s Nature Bazaar, three women — members of the infamous Kadiya gang — were arrested on Friday, said police. The members of the gang, which has its origin in Gulkheri village in Kadiya district of Madhya Pradesh, work with the modus operandi of employing distraction tactics to steal valuables from unsuspecting people in places with high footfall, such as markets and events, in metro cities.

The US woman on January 11 reported that her wallet with $350 in cash, Rs 8,000, credit cards, and important personal documents, was stolen when she had placed it on a shop’s counter.

As police analysed the CCTV footage from the crime scene, the three accused were spotted boarding an autorickshaw after allegedly committing the theft.
