A Delhi police officer and his son were allegedly attacked over the ownership of a residential plot in Burari on Friday. Four accused have been arrested so far and a search is on for the other accused in the case, according to the police.
Officers said Rohit Giri filed a complaint alleging that he was assaulted during the construction of the boundary of his plot in Kaushik Vihar. Giri’s father Dharamveer is a sub-inspector posted with the Delhi Police Special Branch, a specialised unit with core focus on intelligence gathering. Dharamveer was also assaulted.
The police said Giri alleged that a car stopped near his plot and a person named Ajay – who is known to Giri – got down from it, along with others, at around 2 pm.
According to Giri’s complaint, Ajay claimed that the plot belonged to him and began arguing. Meanwhile, more people reached the spot and started assaulting him and his father with iron rods and sticks.
Giri told the police that he ran for his life towards Amrit Vihar bus stand. Both he and his father sustained injuries in the assault. Along with Ajay, three other accused – Ram Tyagi, Yogesh, Dalu — were identified and nabbed later. Two vehicles were also seized.
The police lodged a case under various sections including attempt to murder.
