Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched Delhi’s first hotline maintenance vehicle capable of carrying out electrical repairs while maintaining an uninterrupted power supply. She announced that similar machines will be deployed across the city.
She also announced that 44,000 conventional streetlights in Delhi will be replaced with LEDs before Diwali and a Chhath Ghat will be constructed on the Munak canal.
The hotline maintenance vehicle has been procured by the Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) — a discom that supplies power in North Delhi — for Rs 1.5 crore, the CM’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.
It will enable maintenance teams to perform live-line maintenance without the need to shut off power. It’s a pioneering initiative being introduced in the country for the first time, the TPDDL said in a statement.
Gupta also inaugurated several infrastructural and developmental projects, including two underground reservoirs, tubewells, and booster pumps at Shalimar Bagh – her constituency – worth Rs 65 lakh.
She announced that high-mast and pole lights will be installed at Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura at a cost of Rs 97 lakh. “Nearly 44,000 conventional lights across Delhi are being replaced with LEDs, with the city expected to be fully lit up before Diwali,” she added. The LEDs will replace the conventional sodium vapour lights.
Further, Gupta said the government is planning to develop a new Chhath Ghat on Munak Canal, a crucial water lifeline for Delhi. “I have arranged Rs 40-crore funds from the Centre and a new Chhath Ghat will be constructed on the Munak canal, from Inderlok to Outer Ring Road,” she added.
Gupta said the government will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Haryana to take over the maintenance of the Munak canal. Safety rails will be installed along the canal to prevent accidents and garbage being dumped in it and regular cleaning of the water body will also be ensured, she added. Work on the redevelopment of Munak Canal, worth Rs 5,000 crore, has begun with Central government’s support, she maintained. The CM also inspected the construction of a new road linking Ring Road near Guru Gobind Singh College, being built at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
Meanwhile, Gupta held a meeting with all Delhi MLAs, MPs and councillors to discuss Sewa Pakhwada, to be held from September 17 to October 2.
