Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal a political prisoner, says AAP; BJP calls it melodrama
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor asked AAP leaders to “stop their daily political melodrama” to use the AAP convener's diabetes as a medical ground for bail.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Friday reiterated that the INDIA bloc of opposition parties would come together against the “dictatorial Modi government at the Centre” and hold a rally over the health of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal behind bars at Jantar Mantar on July 30.
Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed the planned demonstration “political melodrama”, AAP National General Secretary (Organisation) Sandeep Pathak called Kejriwal a “political prisoner” who was facing a bid to “scare” him into submission.
“Kejriwal is a chronic diabetic patient and he has been suffering from diabetes for almost 30 years… From June 3 to July 7 (during his incarceration), CM Kejriwal’s sugar level has gone 34 times below 50 mg/dL or up to 50 mg/dL, which is a matter of great concern,” Pathak said.
“This concern becomes more serious as he is the popularly elected Chief Minister of this country on whom the political future of this country depends, such a person whom millions of people consider their ideal. It is a very serious matter that such a person is kept captive inside jail in a fluctuating state of sugar in this manner,” he also said.
Criticising the BJP and Delhi L-G V K Saxena, for “not understanding the gravity of the situation”, Pathak said, “With respect… I would like to tell them that you do not have any domain expertise in this subject. Making statements that Kejriwal is deliberately reducing his sugar level is wrong. Your post is constitutional, and everyone has to maintain the dignity of this constitutional post.”
“Today, this question is not about Kejriwal or AAP, but about the system of the country… The heads of all constituent parties of the INDIA bloc have agreed to this protest. My appeal to the people of the country is whether you support any political party or person or not, but you must support the country,” he added.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor asked AAP leaders to “stop their daily political melodrama” to use the AAP convener’s diabetes as a medical ground for bail. “No doubt diabetes is a serious disease but it can’t be a mandatory condition for bail as it’s medically manageable… hundreds of prisoners have diabetes… calling Kejriwal a political prisoner is an insult to the sacrifice of lakhs of freedom fighters jailed by British during the freedom movement,” Kapoor said.
