Residents of Delhi may expect a rainy Monday, which is expected to lower temperatures as well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Over the past few days, the maximum temperature has been steadily rising from 28.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday to 36.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday — two notches above normal (34.5) — because of trace or no rainfall for the past three days.
The minimum temperature, which was 23 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which is three notches below normal, was 26.5 degrees Celsius (the normal value) on Sunday.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Monday, predicting light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms with a generally cloudy sky.
According to the Met department, there was no special weather phenomenon observed in the capital on Sunday. The relative humidity oscillated between 60% and 84% on Sunday.
The AQI was 99 in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Sunday, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
Going by the IMD’s seven-day forecast, temperatures are expected to drop gradually over the week. The maximum temperature may fall to 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 25 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, for September, the Met Department has predicted above-normal rainfall activity over most parts of India. Northwest India received the second-highest rainfall for August since 2001, according to IMD data between 1901 and 2024.
