Delhi: Bus driver ‘refuses’ to pay fee, tries to ‘run over’ toll plaza manager

The incident took place when toll manager Daya Ram Yadav asked the driver, who was heading towards Dharuhera in Rewari, to pay the toll.

A manager at Kherki Dhaula toll plaza near Manesar was allegedly beaten up and nearly run over by a bus driver who refused to pay the fee. A case has been registered against the driver in connection with the incident, said police.

The incident took place when toll manager Daya Ram Yadav asked the driver, who was heading towards Dharuhera in Rewari, to pay the toll.

“The driver refused and an argument broke out between the two. The driver roughed up Yadav and got back into the bus. Yadav stood in front of the bus and tried to stop it. The driver accelerated and tried to run over Yadav who jumped aside in the nick of time. The driver broke the barrier and drove away,” said Kirpal Singh, a toll plaza official.

The incident comes two days after toll plaza staff were roughed up over the same issue. “On May 20, a motorist sought exemption from paying the toll claiming he was a resident of a neighbouring village. But the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) was found to be forged and toll staff confiscated it. He then called his relatives who stormed into the control room and beat up the staff,” said T C Rao, chief managing director, Skylark Group — which manages the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

“We are in the process of collecting evidence and identifying the culprits in both cases. They will be arrested soon,” said SHO (Kherki Dhaula police station) Inspector Anand Kumar.
