(Express Photo)The blood sample report of Gaganpreet Makkar, the main accused in the Delhi BMW crash, which killed a senior Finance Ministry official, has been reported to be negative, the Delhi Police said Tuesday.
Navjot Singh, 57, who was posted as a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry, was killed, and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, was injured when the BMW rammed into them Sunday afternoon near the Delhi Cantonment Metro Station.
On Monday, the Delhi Police said Gaganpreet, 38, has been arrested, and booked under sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and for attempting to destroy evidence after the accident.
She was taken into custody from the Nulife Hospital at 1.30 pm Monday, and taken to the Dhaula Kuan Chowki, where her arrest was made formal at 4 pm. She was then produced before the court.
“The accused lady, Gaganpreet, was produced before the duty MM, and remanded to two days of judicial custody,” Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), said.
The police claimed that they arrived at the spot after receiving three PCR calls about traffic congestion caused by the accident, rather than the accident itself.
During the investigation, the police also found that Gaganpreet and her husband, who was also with her in the car along with their two children, aged 4 and 6, and their help, took Navjot and his wife to Nulife hospital, 19 km away from the accident spot.
“It has been revealed that the hospital owner is known to them, as Gaganpreet’s parental home is in the same locality where the hospital is located. On asking particularly, why she did not take them to a nearby hospital, she stated she was in panic, and she only knew the hospital as her kids were admitted there during Covid,” a senior police officer said.
